ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team (20-9) dropped its second straight match, falling to local rival University of Rochester (12-13) in five sets at The Palestra on Wednesday evening. RIT won the first set 25-23, then lost the next two, 19-25, 17-25. RIT rallied back to win set four, 25-19, then dropped the decisive set, 15-12. Senior
Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) surpassed the 1,700 dig and 1,600 kill plateau in the match.
RIT sophomore
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) had 17 kills and 17 digs to lead the squad.
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) had 11 kills, 17 digs, and four blocks, while
Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) recorded 17 digs. Sophomore setter
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 45 assists and added 14 digs.
Schaffer played in just two games, chipping in with eight kills and six digs. #Cat Sullivan added seven kills.
Casey Larsen and Kelly Mulrey posted double-doubles in kills and digs for Rochester. Together, they combined for 33 kills and 35 digs. Larsen had 17 of each. Mulrey had 16 kills and 18 digs.
RIT won, 3-1, earlier in the year at the RIT tournament. The teams will meet once more - on the October 30-31 weekend at the NY Regional Challenge being hosted by Nazareth.
The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday, as they compete at the second Empire 8 crossover weekend at Ithaca. RIT opens play on Friday against Nazareth at 5:30 p.m. and Hartwick at 8 p.m.
