No. 4 women's hockey to host No. 3 Elmira in pair of locally televised contests this weekend

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's hockey team, ranked fourth in Division III, takes on the No. 3 Elmira College Soaring Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 10 in a pair of ECAC West crucial contests. Both games begin at 2 p.m. Both games will be aired live on Time Warner Cable channel 98, with Gene Battaglia and Chris Lerch bringing you the action.

RIT (7-1-2, 3-0-1 ECAC West) is riding a two-game winning streak. Junior captain #Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# is second nationally with 20 points, while classmate #Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)# is third nationally with 12 goals. 2009 All-American Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) has 20 points (6-14-20) in 10 games this season. She leads the nation with 14 assists, and is second in points Junior Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge) leads the team with 12 goals, and six power-play tallies. Her 12 goals are third in the nation, and six power-play tallies lead all of Division III. Freshman forward #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# is fourth in the nation in points per game among all rookies. The Tigers have scored one power-play goal in nine of its 10 games this season. Tigers are 24-for-70 (34.3 percent) on the power-play this season, which leads the nation. RIT is second highest scoring team in the nation (5.50 goals per game).

Elmira (10-3-0, 5-2-0 ECAC West) comes into this weekend's contests on fire, having defeated No. 5 Middlebury and No. 1 Amherst on Sunday and Monday at the Cardinal/Panther Classic held at Middlebury 0-1-1 at Bentley last weekend. The Soaring Eagles defeated Middlebury in overtime, 3-2, and dispatched Amherst, 2-1. Elmira has six players with at least 10 points. Lauryn DePaul leads the squad with nine assists and 13 points, while Jamie Kivi leads the team with seven goals. Freshman goaltender Lauren Sullivan has emerged as the starting goaltender, with a 7-1-0 record, 1.12 goals against average, and .939 save percentage. Elmira won the 2009 ECAC West Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championship game.

Elmira leads the all-time series between the two schools, 7-2-1. Last season, RIT was 0-1-1 against the Soaring Eagles, with both games played in Elmira. RIT scored two shorthanded goals to earn a 3-3 tie at Elmira on Nov. 15, 2008. Both of RIT's wins over Elmira have come at Ritter Arena, 3-2 on Jan. 17, 2007, and 4-1 on Dec. 1, 2007.
