ROCHESTER, NY –
Junior forward #Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)# recorded her fourth hat-trick of the season, leading the he RIT women's hockey team (11-4-3, 6-3-2 ECAC West) to a 5-3 win over  ECAC West foe Utica (9-9-2, 5-6-2 ECAC West) before a sea of pink at Ritter Arena on Saturday afternoon.

#Megan Kobar (Calgary, Alberta)# and  #Kayla Ross (Altoona, PA/Gilmour Academy)# scored first period goals to give RIT a 2-0 lead.  Utica battled back to to tie the game at 2, before Stack tallied three times in a little under a period's worth of time to seal the game for RIT.

Stack gave RIT the 3-2 lead, banking a shot off Utica goaltender Jill Doherty after a shot by #Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# was blocked with 2:11 left in the second period. #Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# also assisted on the power-play goal, Stack's 19th of the year.

Utica came right back to tie the game at 3-3, 3:52 into the third period, as Lynny Gonzalez put in her own rebound in front of the RIT net.

Stack scored the eventual game-winner and go-ahead goal five minutes later, as she jammed in a feed in tight after a great rush by #Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/PSA Chaos)#.  Irani attempted a war-around that was stuffed by Doherty.  Irani got her own rebound and fed Stack who was alone on the doorstep.

Stack completed the hat-trick with 6:26 left taking a feed from Ross just inside the Utica zone and ripping a snap shot over the glove of Doherty for her 21st goal of the season.

Stack is now second nationally in goal scoring and has 51 in RIT career.  Dagg and Read each added two assists for the Tigers.

RIT out-shot Utica, 40-24.  RIT was 1-for-5 with the man-advantage and scored its sixth shorthanded goal of the season.  #Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# made 21 saves to earn the win for RIT.

Tiffany Bichrest scored twice and added an assist to lead Utica.  Lynny Gonzalez added a goal and an assist for the Pioneers, who were 1-for-7 with the man-advantage.  Jill Doherty stopped 35 shots in defeat for Utica.

The Tigers implemented “Make the Rink Pink” in an effort to cure cancer, working with Zeta Tau Alpha sorority to raise money for cancer. The Tigers donned special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off in the fund-raiser. The Tiger jerseys are currently available for bidding online. The bidding ends at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31. Jersey proceeds will go to Rochester General Hospital's Lipson Cancer Center.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after one period of play, out-shooting Utica, 16-5.

Kobar opened the scoring 8:56 into the game, shorthanded, with her fifth tally of the year. Read fired a shot from the point that was blocked. #Missy Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy) corralled the puck behind the net and found Kobar in front, who one-timed a pass past Doherty.

RIT defenseman #Ellesha Fortuna (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# made an excellent defensive play a few minutes later, catching a Pioneer who had snuck behind the defense, and knocking the puck out of harm's way.

Ross made it 2-0 Tigers at the 12:19 mark, slamming a rebound past Doherty for her sixth goal of the year. RIT did a great job fore-checking and keeping the puck in the Utica zone. Dagg fed #Jamie Parhar (Calgary, Alberta)# at the left point. Parhar drilled a shot that Doherty stopped, but Ross beat everyone to the loose puck and scored.

Utica cut the RIT lead to 2-1 with 4.5 seconds left in the period, as Tiffany Bichrest slid a low shot past Torgerson on the rush after receiving a great feed from Lynny Gonzalez.

The two teams traded second period goals, as RIT headed into the second intermission up 3-2, despite holding a 31-13 edge in shots.

The Pioneers tied the game at 2 with a power-play goal just 32 seconds into the period, as Buchrest tipped in a point shot by Mackenzie Roy for her second of the game and fourth of the year.

RIT is now 8-2-0 all-time against Utica. RIT has now won four straight against the Pioneers.

The two teams wrap up their season series on Sunday, once again at 2 p.m.
