MENDON, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (4-3) had its three-match winning streak snapped by undefeated SUNY Geneseo (9-0), 7-2 on Wednesday evening, indoors at the Mendon Tennis Center. The Tigers lost two singles matches in third-set tiebreakers.
Junior standout
Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) picked up her ninth singles win of the season, defeating Monica Vieth, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 at first singles. Berg also paired with
Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal) to earn a 8-4 win at first doubles.
Stanley nearly pulled out the win at second singles, as she trounced Melissa Baker, 6-1 in the first set. Baker rebounded to take the second set, 6-2 and won the tiebreaker, 10-4.
At fourth singles,
Lindsey Gibson (Glastonbury, CT/Mercy) took the first set of her match, 6-1, but opponent Anna Lehet roared back to win 6-4 in the second set and 10-3 in the third set tiebreaker.
The Tigers return to Empire 8 action on Saturday, as they travel to face Nazareth College at 1 p.m.
