CORTLAND, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team was defeated by #7 SUNY Cortland 11-6 on Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The loss, RIT's third straight, drops RIT to 5-3 on the season, while the Red Dragons improved to 6-1.

RIT was outshot by Cortland, 43-30. The Red Dragons held a 50-42 advantage in ground balls and won 17-of-21 faceoffs.

Sophomore Cody Schroeder-Young (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) paced RIT with two goals. Adam Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) (Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) collected a goal and two assists. #Sean Gillies# (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy), Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy) (Deerfield, ME/Freeport Academy) each had a goal.

Sophomore goalie Robert Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) (Ridgefield, CT) registered 16 saves, including seven in the opening quarter but took the loss.

Mike Tota gave Cortland a 1-0 lead eight minutes, 33 seconds into the first quarter off a feed from Joey Morgan.

Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy) answered less than two minutes later to knot up the score at one. Sean Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/Albany Academy) gave the Tigers their only lead of the game, 2-1, at 1:12 of the first.

Cortland connected for the only three goals of the second quarter for a 4-2 lead at the intermission. Brian Krol scored at 14:17, and Brandon Misiaszek and Krol added goals less than two minutes apart.

The Red Dragons broke open the game, outscoring RIT, 6-2, in the third quarter. After Tota and Schroder-Young traded goals early in the third, Misiaszek, Jay DiStefano, Krol and Greg Wright scored in a six-minute span to make it a 9-3 game.

Adam Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) stopped the run at 2:05 of the third quarter with an unassisted goal, but Eric Parah made it 10-4 only 16 seconds later.

In the early minutes of the fourth quarter, the Red Dragons took four penalties and RIT finally cashed in at 9:21 when Cody Schroeder-Young (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) scored a man up goal on an assist from Tyler Russell (Livonia, NY/Livonia) (Livonia, NY).

Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) scored at 7:08 of the fourth quarter to pull the Tigers to within 10-6, but Parah stemmed any RIT momentum when he scooped up a ground ball on the ensuing faceoff and scored just eight seconds later to make it an 11-6 game and conclude the scoring.

Dan MacRae (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity) (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) grabbed 10 ground balls to lead RIT. M.J. Kiekebelt and David Burke (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) each had four ground balls.

The Tigers are off until Saturday, April 5 when they host #4 Ithaca College at 1 pm on RIT Field.
