Men's lacrosse moves to 4-0 with victory over Scranton

Lehmann tallies five goals for Tigers

M.J. Kiekebelt caused four turnovers and added seven ground balls for RIT on Wednesday

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 15-10 win over University of Scranton (1-4) on a cold and blustery afternoon at RIT's Turf Field on Wednesday. RIT's Adam Lehmann (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) had a career-high six points on five goals and an assist.

RIT out shot the Royals 47-20 and won the ground ball battle 51-26. The Tigers won 19-of-26 face-offs and went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Lehmann also had 10 ground balls and won 13-of-19 face-offs to go along with his six points. #David Burke (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# (Fairport, NY) had three goals for RIT. Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) (Olwick, NJSeton Hall Prep) had two goals and #Adam Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa)# (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) and Cody Schroeder-Young (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) (Syraxuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) each had a goal and an assist. #Sean Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/Albany Academy)# (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy) had a pair of assists.

#M.J. Kiekebelt# (Caledon, ON/St. Andrew's College/Aurora) grabbed seven ground balls and caused four turnovers. Kevin Rattigan (Chicago, IL/Western Reserve Academy) (Chicago, IL/Western Reserve Academy) got the start and played the first half, picking up his fourth win of the season. He made three saves and allowed  three goals. #Robert Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield)# (Ridgefield, CT) played most of the second half allowing three goals and making seven saves. Dan Wiatroski (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central) (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central) played the final two minutes for his first action of the season.

Nick Youngstrom led Scranton with four goals. Kyle Frank had three goals and Robby Napp had two goals and an assist. Jeremy Dowiak took the loss allowing 10 goals and making six saves.

The Tigers led 5-3 after the first quarter thanks to three goals by Lehmann. He scored off the opening face-off, giving RIT the early momentum. David Burke (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Adam Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) and #A.J. Tingle# (Cary, NC Green Hope) also had goals in the quarter.

RIT took control of the game in the second quarter, out scoring the Royals 5-0. Burke and Lehmann each had a pair of goals in the quarter and Schroeder-Young and Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) each had goals. RIT led 10-3 at the half.

Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy) (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy), Tanner King (Virginia Beach, VA/Corning East) (Virginia Beach, VA/Corning East) and Lehmann each scored in the third quarter for RIT. Nick Youngstrom scored back-to-back goals for Scranton as the Tigers led 13-5 after the third.

The Royals won the fourth quarter, out scoring RIT 5-2. Lehman and Tom Riley (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) scored for the Tigers. It was Riley's first collegiate goal.

RIT is off until Wednesday, March 18 when they face SUNY Oswego. Game time is at 4 pm in Oswego, New York.
