ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT women's hockey team (21-2-2, 15-2-1 ECAC West) concluded the regular season by winning its eighth straight game, 6-0 over visiting Buffalo State College (2-18-4, 2-12-4 ECAC West) on Saturday evening at Ritter Arena.  The Tigers, ranked third in Division III, will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ECAC West Tournament at Elmira.

Senior #Maegan Geypens (Oshawa, Ontario/Durham Lightning)# (Oshawa, Ontario) scored two first period goals, while #Kelley Prom (Grafton, WI/Wisconsin Wild)# (Grafton, WI) and #Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Bisons)# (Orchard Park, NY) each added a goal and an assist.  Sandra Grant (Abbotsford, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers) (Abbotsford, British Columbia) made 11 saves to earn her 14th win and third shut-out of the year.

RIT out-shot Buffalo State 60-11 and scored three power-play goals for the second straight game.  Twelve different Tigers had at least one point on the evening.

The Tigers started off with intensity, scoring four first period goals and out-shooting the Bengals, 22-3.

Geypens tallied the first two goals of the game, 2:15 apart midway through the first period.  She opened the scoring on the power-play, taking a feed from #Erica Owczarczak (West Seneca, NY/Buffalo Bisons)# (West Seneca, NY) and ripping a shot over the glove of A.J. Sliwinski for her sixth tally of the year.  #Megan Kobar (Calgary, Alberta)# (Calgary, Alberta) also assisted on the goal.

Geypens scored her second of the period moments later, as she intercepted a puck at center ice, went to the outside and flipped a shot that was blocked.  Geypens circled the net, grabbed the loose puck and fired a bad angle shot that deflected off a Bengals defenseman and into the goal.

Prom scored her second of the season with 2:21 left in the period, slamming home a rebound off a shot from #Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Oakville, Ontario)#Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)# (Honeoye Falls, NY) also assisted on Prom's goal, her second of the year.

Giamo got into the goal scoring act with just six seconds left in the frame, tapping home a rebound on the power-play after Prom deflected a point shot by #Lindsay Littman (Eaglesham, Alberta/Warner Warriors)# (Eaglesham, Alberta).  Sliwinski made the save on the tip, but nobody marked Giamo who had a tap-in goal.

Buffalo State pulled Sliwinski after one period of play.  She stopped 18-of-22 shots.

The Tigers continued the pressure into the second period, and made it 5-0 on the man-advantage when #Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)# (Batavia, NY) ripped a blast from the right face-off circle past Kelly Mendola for her 15th goal of the season.  #Keltie Jones (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Burlington, Ontario) and #Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors)# (Winnipeg, Manitoba) assisted on the power-play tally.

Mendola made 20 saves in the second period, and stopped 36-of-38 shots for the Bengals.

#Nicole Scuteri (Rochester, NY/Rochester Edge)# (Rochester, NY)
closed out the scoring with 1:40 left in regulation, batting in a loose puck out of mid-air from in front of the net for her sixth goal of the season.

The Tigers end the regular season as the highest scoring team in Division III, averaging 4.88 goals per game, scoring 122 goals.  RIT is out-scoring its foes 36-10 during its eight-game winning streak.  They have 18 power-play goals in their last 12 games.

RIT improved to 11-1-1 all-time against Buffalo State.

The Tigers need one more win to tie the school record for most wins in a season, set in 2006-07.

RIT honored its five seniors, Littman, Jones, Geypens, #Dayna Birch (Abbotsford, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers)# (Abbotsford, British Columbia) and Grant.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 7 in the ECAC West semifinals at Elmira.  RIT, who finished second in conference play, will await the winner of next weekend's SUNY Plattsburgh vs. SUNY Oswego contest.
