PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (3-18, 0-12 E8) women's basketball team was defeated by St. John Fisher College (14-7, 7-5 E8) 76-66 in an Empire 8 clash on Tuesday night. The Tigers led by four points with five minutes to play, but a 20-8 run by the Cardinals proved to be the difference.
The Tigers shot 40.9% in the first half but trailed 37-28 at the half. RIT shot 9-of-22 from the floor and went 8-of-10 from the foul line.
#Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# (Liverpool, NY) paced the Tigers with 13 points and nine rebounds.
#Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, NY/Blasdell)# (Blasdell, NY) added eight points, going 3-for-3 from the floor, including two three-pointers.
RIT fell behind by as many as 12 points in the early stages of the second half. But the Tigers responded going on a 28-14 run capped off by a layup by #
Rachel Bruno (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah)# (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) with 5:42 remaining giving RIT its first lead of the game.
After a Fisher turnover on their next possession,
Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)' layup gave the Tigers a four point lead, their largest of the game, at 60-56.
St. John Fisher took the lead back with 4:16 remaining on a layup by Colleen Maloney. She hit another bucket giving the Cardinals a 60-63 lead.
On RIT's next possession
Danielle Furman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) stopped and popped a three-pointer tying the game at 63-63.
Fisher took control from that point on, outscoring RIT 13-3 over the final 3:07 going on to the 10-point win.
RIT shot 48% from the floor on 24-of-50 shooting.
Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led RIT with 21 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.
Danielle Furman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) (Coudersport, PA) added 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
