PITTSFORD, NY - The RIT women's basketball team (3-3, 0-1 Empire 8) dropped its Empire 8 opener, 82-60 at St. John Fisher (4-1, 1-0 Empire 8) on Saturday afternoon at Manning-Napier Varsity Gym. The Cardinals went on a 15-2 run spanning the end of the first half and start of the second to break open a close game.
St. John Fisher led 35-31 late in the opening half, before ending the stanza on a 9-0 run to go up 44-31. The Cardinals extended their lead to 50-33 with 18:23 left, and were never threatened after.
Colleen Maloney led all scorers with 25 points for St. John Fisher. She added five boards and two blocks. Amanda Lax chipped in with 14 points, while Kristen Taliento added 12 points. Stephanie Sweeney recorded six steals and six assists.

Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# scored 15 points and added 15 rebounds and two blocks in just 23 minutes of play. She was 6-for-10 from the field. #
Shannon Bean (Manchester, ME/Maranacook Community)# scored a season-high 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field. #
Jasmine Maisonet (Baldwin, NY/Sacred Heart Academy)# added nine points.
The Cardinals shot 83 percent from the line (23-for-28) and 45 percent from the field. RIT shot 37 percent from the field. St. John Fisher out-rebounded RIT, 40-37.
The Tigers are right back in action on Sunday, as they host Stevens in an Empire 8 contest at 12 p.m.
