ROCHESTER, NY -
Senior #Kelley Prom (Grafton, WI/Wisconsin Wild) and junior (Tinley Park, IL)Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# scored two goals apiece to lead the No. 7 RIT women's hockey team (2-0-1, 2-0-1 ECAC West) to a 6-2 victory over SUNY Potsdam (3-3-0. 1-2-0 ECAC West) in the home opener at Ritter Arena on Friday afternoon.

Prom, Dagg, #Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)#, #Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder)#, #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)#, and #Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/PSA Chaos)# all had two points apiece to lead the Tigers offensively.  RIT dominated play throughout, out-shooting SUNY Potsdam, 64-13.

RIT scored three power-play goals and two shorthanded goals.  The Tigers led the nation in shorthanded goals a season ago with 11.  RIT was 3-for-8 with the man-advantage, while Potsdam was 2-for-11 on the power-play.  The Bears scored both goals while up two men.

Freshman goaltender #Carley King (Tinley Park, IL)# stopped 11 shots to pick up her first collegiate win.  SUNY Potsdam netminder Hillary Hitchman made 55 saves before being replaced by Jen Conophy, who stopped three shots.

Annmarie Lewis scored a goal and added an assist for the Bears.  Katie Komsa dished out two assists.

The Tigers fired a season-high 26 shots on goal over the first 20 minutes, but could only muster one goal, a power-play tally by Prom late in the frame, and led 1-0.

Hitchman was outstanding, stopping 25 first period shots. She was able to keep her rebounds to a minimum, and smothered several good scoring chances.

King came up big early in the game, stopping Nicky Bougie from in close on a 2-on-1.

Prom tipped a point shot from Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/PSA Chaos) through the legs of Hitchman for her first goal of the season. Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) also assisted on the goal that came with 2:58 left in the period.

The Tigers fired 25 more shots in the second period, scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead.

Dagg fired in a pass from Schlattman at the side of the Potsdam net on a power-play at the 12:10 mark of the period to give RIT a 2-0 lead. Stack also assisted on the goal, as her initial shot from the point was stopped by Hitchman and came to Schlattman at the side of the net.

Stack made it 3-0 1:31 later, slipping a backhander past Hitchman on the power-play. She took a feed from Schlattman in the neutral zone, slipped past a pair of Bears defenseman and roofed the shot in. Read also assisted on the goal.

Courtney Laughlin cut the Tiger lead to 3-1 on a two-man advantage with 3:45 left in the period. Her slap-shot from the right boards went off the stick of King and in.

Dagg scored the first of RIT's two third period shorthanded goals, just 3:28 into the final frame, stuffing in her own rebound.  Hiller and Irani assisted on the goal.

Junior #Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors)# roofed a perfect shot from a tough angle to give RIT a 5-1 lead at the 9:49 mark.  It was the game's lone even strength goal.  She took a feed from #Belina Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/Saugeen Maitland Lightning)# and went high for her second goal of the season.

Prom scored her second goal of the game to make it 6-1, tipping in a point shot from #Ellesha Fortuna (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# while RIT was shorthanded with 5:24 left.

On the same power-play, Annmarie Lewis scored on a breakaway to complete the scoring for Potsdam.

RIT improves to 3-10-0 all-time against the Bears, and is 3-0 since Potsdam joined the ECAC West last season. Last season, the Tigers defeated Potsdam, 4-1 and 6-0 in Canton.

The two teams conclude its regular season series on Saturday at 12 p.m.
