Volleyball finishes 1-3 at Gallaudet's Worthington Classic

WASHINGTON, DC - The RIT volleyball team (15-13) finished 1-3 at the 2009 Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet Classic on Friday and Saturday.  RIT needed five sets to defeat Catholic on Friday in the opening match, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-10.  The Tigers fell the host Bisons in the nightcap, 25-18, 25-9, 25-21.  On Saturday, RIT fell to St. Vincent's in four games, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16, and lost to McDaniel in three sets, 25-17, 29-25, 25-16.

Senior middle-hitter Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) slammed 19 kills, along with three service aces in the victory over Catholic. She also recorded 11 digs in the match. Freshman Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) recorded 11 kills on 15 attempts, hitting a robust .667. Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) had 39 assists for the Tigers.

In the loss against the Bisons, Petko had 10 kills on 16 attempts, hitting .625. Worth recorded 19 set assists, along with 3 digs.

On Saturday, both St. Vincent's and McDaniel defeated the Tigers. In the match against St. Vincent's, Petko had 10 kills and five digs. Worth contributed 26 assists.

The Tigers are right back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to face SUNY Brockport in a non-league match, starting at 7 p.m.
