ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (7-5, 6-2 Empire 8) concluded its 2009 regular season by defeating Alfred University (8-7, 2-6 Empire 8), 8-1 indoors at the Gordon Field House on Wednesday afternoon. RIT finishes the season third in the Empire 8 conference standings.
Junior
Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) won at first singles, 6-2, 6-3, and paired with
Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal) to earn an 8-1 win at first doubles. Stanley picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles.
Junior
Michele Caporali (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) secured a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles, while
Marie Revekant (Pittsford, NY/East Rochester) garnered a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles.
Julie Burkett (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny) earned a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at sixth singles.
The second doubles team of Revekant and Gibson enjoyed an 8-5 win, while Burkett and Caporali were victorious, 8-1 at third doubles.
The match was originally scheduled for October 7, but postponed due to inclement weather.
RIT returns to action on Friday, at the New York State Championship Tournament hosted by Ithaca College at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
