ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore forward Todd Gaulocher's header with 2:35 remaining in the second overtime gave the RIT men's soccer team a 2-1 win over Empire 8 rival Ithaca (4-3-2, 1-1-0 E8) on Saturday afternoon. The win improved RIT to 3-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the Empire 8 an snapped a five-game winless streak.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal by
Jon Rosebrook (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) goal. He took a pass from
Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) and struck a well-placed shot into the corner past Ithaca keeper Justin Parlapiano.
The Bombers tied the score in the 51st minute on a goal by Justin Wu. Gerard Lewis had the assist on the play.
After a scoreless first overtime, RIT keeper
Ben Frazier (Westminster, MD/Westminster) kept the game tied with a diving save off a shot from Fernando Casanova.
On RIT's next possession, Gaulocher headed a shot just over the outstretched hands of Parlapiano for his second goal of the season and the RIT win.
Frazier turned his best performance this season, making four saves and allowing just one goal. It was the freshman's first victory in a Tigers uniform.
RIT will host Elmira College on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm on RIT Field.
