Tigers fall to Nazareth but beat Utica

PITTSFORD, NY --
The RIT women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Empire 8 Crossover hosted by Nazareth College. The Tigers were defeated by Nazareth College 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-23), but came back to beat Utica 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-18). The split moves the Tigers to 19-18 overall and 4-4 in the Empire 8.

Versus Nazareth, The Tigers jumped out to 25-21 win in the first set. Nazareth rallied to win set two 25-23 and won the third set convincingly 25-16. The Tigers kept set four close bu fell 25-23.

Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) led RIT offensively with 10 kills. She added three digs and two blocks for the Tigers. Senior captain, Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) had eight kills and chipped in six digs and two blocks.

Kate Cooper had nine kills, four digs and a block while Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) and Kate Sessions had 15 and 11 digs respectively. Melanie Springer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) had 16 assists, while Cristine Schiavello (West Chester, PA/Unionville) had 14.

In the Utica match Petko led RIT with 11 kills, hitting .350 on the match. Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) added six kills and Cristine Schiavello (West Chester, PA/Unionville) added five kills. Schiavello had a match-high 14 assists to go along with a dig and a block. Ten different Tigers had digs, led by Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who had five.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, October 31 at the New York State Regional Challenge.
