Volleyball drops four-set match at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY –
The RIT women's volleyball team (15-14) won the opening set, 25-22, but could not hang on, as SUNY Brockport (13-12) won the final three sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-22, and the match in four games on Tuesday evening.

Freshman Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) led the way with nine kills. Senior Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) tied a season-high with nine blocks, to go along with eight kills, and eight digs.  Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 22 assists to go along with seven digs and three blocks.  Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) compiled eight digs, and Melanie Springer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) ripped three service aces..

The Golden Eagles trailed early in the first game 6-11 and never recovered. In the second set the score was tied 11-11 before Brockport scored nine of the next ten points to take the 20-12 lead.  The Golden Eagles scored nine of the next 11 points en route to the 25-17 final in game three. In the final set, Brockport led 17-10 before RIT battled to within two points at 21-19 but the Golden Eagles held on.

Brockport totaled 49 kills on the night to RIT's 30 as part of the 'Kills for a Cure' campaign. Fans could make a flat donation or make a pledge to sponsor an athlete, a team or both teams for the amount of kills they tally on the night. All proceeds will benefit CURE Childhood Cancer Association; a nationally recognized innovator in peer support for families with children diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday and Sunday at the Baruch College Invitational.  RIT plays Manhattanville at 3 p.m. and Marymount at 5 p.m.
