ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in conjunction with the RIT Athletics Department and Tiger Den is sponsoring the second annual “Real Tigers Dig Pink” night for breast cancer awareness to be held during the RIT volleyball team's match against SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m.
The RIT volleyball team will be sporting special pink jerseys to commemorate the event. SUNY Geneseo will be wearing pink ribbons in their hair to help support the cause as well. Both teams will exchange gifts before the game.
Members of the RIT Tiger Den are encouraged to come out and support the team and this great cause. RIT SAAC will be running a concession stand, with all proceeds going to charity.
Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. Fans can purchase a pink ribbons or pink bracelets for $1 to support the cause, and receive a raffle ticket for prizes that will be given out between sets. All proceeds will go towards The Side-Out Foundation, which fights breast cancer through the sport of volleyball.
"Even though October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's important that all survivors and all that have been touched by someone's story come out and lend their support regardless of what kind of cancer is involved, “ said RIT Assistant Volleyball Coach and event organizer Bou Chanthavisouk."
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 212,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the United States in 2006, adding to the 2.3 million women in our country with a history of breast cancer.
