BRIDGEPORT, CT - The #5 women's hockey team (10-1-2) exploded for a season-high 11 goals, including six in the first period, en route to a dominating 11-3 win over Division I Sacred Heart (5-10-2) on Saturday afternoon. RIT now has a nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2).
#Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors)# (Winnipeg, Manitoba) led the way for RIT with her third career hat-trick and two assists.
#Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)# (Honeoye Falls, NY) and #
Missy Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy)# (Chesterland, OH) scored two goals apiece.
#Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)# (Batavia, NY) recorded a goal and three assists, while
#Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Oakville, Ontario) recorded a goal and two assists.
#Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects)# (Lakewood, CO) and
#Keltie Jones (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Burlington, Ontario) also scored for the Tigers.
#Dayna Birch (Abbotsford, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers)# (Abbotsford, British Columbia) dished out two assists.
The Tigers scored six first period goals, including four in a span of 1:23 to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the first intermission. Both teams scored once in the second period. RIT then put the game away with four more third period goals.
RIT out-shot Sacred Heart, 37-27.
#Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# (Wentzville, MO) made 24 saves to pick up her third win of the season. RIT bombarded Amanda Nagle of Sacred Heart, scoring 10 times in 34 shots, before she was pulled in the third period.
The Tigers went 2-for-5 on the power-play and scored two shorthanded goals. RIT now has eight shorthanded goals on the year to lead all of Division III. Sacred Heart was 2-for-10 with the man-advantage.
RIT has out-scored its opponents 53-18 over the nine-game streak. The 11 goals scored by RIT are the most since tallying 13 on Jan. 27, 2006 against St. Michael's.
Last night, Sacred Heart scored two late third period goals to salvage a 4-4 tie against the Tigers.
RIT returns to conference play on Saturday and Sunday, as they host ECAC West foe Chatham. Both games begin at 2 p.m.
