ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's basketball team was defeated by Elmira College (5-4, 1-1 E8) 65-53 in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops RIT to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8.
The Tigers led 25-23 with 4:39 remaining in the half, but an 11-3 run by the Soaring Eagles over the final 4:39 gave Elmira a 33-28 halftime lead.
RIT shot 36.1% from the floor in the first half led by
Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (Liverpool, NY) and her nine points. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
Tara Holaday (Arcola,IL/Arcola) Arcola, IL) added five points.
The Tigers went cold shooting from the floor in the second half, shooting 24.2% from the floor. The Soaring Eagles gradually pulled away for the 12-point win.
Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had her eighth double-double in nine games, scoring 16 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.
Anne Wapshire (Blasdell, NY) added 15 points and had three rebounds.
Marcia Coakley was one of three Soaring Eagles scoring in double figures, tallying 17 points to go along with four assists. Mary Symonds added 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Erin Rupell had 15 points.
RIT hosts Empire 8 and cross-town rival St. John Fisher College on Tuesday, January 6 at 6 pm
