Wrestling Finishes 2-2 at Mel Berry Duals

GREENVILLE, PA -
The RIT wrestling team (6-8) finished 2-2 at the 2009 Mel Berry Duals hosted by Thiel College on Saturday.  RIT opened the day by losing to Mercyhurst North East, 40-6, then rallied to defeat Muskingum, 23-22.  The Tigers had their most convincing win in years, 48-3 over WVU Tech, then fell to the hosts in the final match of the day, 30-20.

Senior standout #Luke Baum (Ontario, NY/Wayne)# (Ontario, NY/Wayne) was a perfect 4-0 on the day.  He won by forfeit at 157 lbs. to start the day and earned a 19-3 technical fall win over Luke Caracofe of Muskingum.  Baum defeated Justin Ashley of WVU Tech by technical fall, then earned a major decision win over Mason Stewart of Thiel, 10-2.  Baum is now 28-6 this season.

RIT picked up four forfeit wins over WVU Tech.  Baum, #Adam Hugunine (Rochester, NY/Penfield)# (Rochester, NY/Penfield), Adam Wallender (Loveland, OH/Moeller), #Zach Feador (North Olmsted, OH/North Olmsted)# (North Olmsted, OH/North Olmsted), Wake and Avorkilya all earned resounding wins.

Feador and Wake garnered pins against Thiel.  Avorkliya and Baum earned wins by major decision.

Avorkliya and Wake finished 3-0 on the afternoon.  Wake is now 22-7.

The Tigers return to the mat on Wednesday, as they host SUNY Brockport at Clark Gym.  The match begins at 7 p.m.
