RIT Basketball Squads to Compete in 2009 J.P. Morgan Chase Scholarship Tournament; Men Earn #2 Seed, Women Seeded #7

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT men's and women's basketball teams are in action this week, as the 43rd Annual J.P. Morgan Chase Scholarship Tournament takes center stage.  The men's team (8-3, 6-0 Empire 8) earned the #2 seed, while the women (3-8, 0-5 Empire 8) are seeded seventh. 

The men open tournament play on Wednesday, against first round host, #7 Nazareth (2-8, 1-3 Empire 8) at 8:15 p.m.  The Tigers defeated Nazareth on the road on Dec. 6, 94-81 in overtime.  RIT is riding a four-game winning streak, after Sunday's dramatic 87-84 win over previously unbeaten Ithaca, ranked 12th nationally.

RIT's women are also at Nazareth for first round action on Tuesday.  The Tigers play #2 St. John Fisher (7-3, 3-2 Empire 8) at 6:15 p.m.  It will be the second meeting in a week between the two schools.  St. John Fisher defeated RIT 59-36 in the first meeting at RIT.

On the men's side, University of Rochester is the #1 seed, followed by RIT, SUNY Geneseo, St. John Fisher, Roberts Wesleyan, SUNY Brockport, Nazareth and Keuka.

The University of Rochester, the top-ranked team in all of Division III, is the #1 seed in the women's tournament.  St. John Fisher is #2, followed by Nazareth, SUNY Brockport, Roberts Wesleyan, SUNY Geneseo, RIT and Keuka.

RIT will host the women's semifinals on Thursday, men's semifinals on Friday and championship games on Saturday.  Tickets for each doubleheader (two per day) are $5 and will be sold at the door.
