POTSDAM, NY -- The #5 RIT women's hockey team shut out SUNY Potsdam 6-0 on Friday evening in Potsdam, New York.
#Sandra Grant (Abbotsford, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers)# (Abbotsford, BC) made 21 saves in the shut out, while #
Erica Owczarczak (West Seneca, NY/Buffalo Bisons)# (West Seneca, NY) and #
Megan Kobar (Calgary, Alberta)# (Calgary, AB) each scored two goals.
The Tigers lone goal in the first period came on the power play. Kobar tallied her first collegiate goal at 10:23 of the first on assists from
#Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Oakville, ON) and #
Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Bisons)# (Orchard Park, NY).
#Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)# (Honeoye Falls, NY) made it 2-0 RIT at 8:02 of the second on an even-strength goal on an assist from
#Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# (St. George, ON) and #Keltie Jones (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Burlington, ON).
Owczarczak gave RIT a 3-0 lead at 8:22 of the second on Dagg's second assist of the period.
The Tigers struck three times in the third period, two coming on the power play. Owczarczak, Kobar and Jones each scored for the Tigers in the third.
Owczarczak struck for the second time with RIT on the power play 1:47 into the third. Giamo and
Missy Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy) (Chesterland, OH) had the assists on the play.
Kobar scored her second of the game at 3:10 of the third on the power play. Galbraith and Giamo had the assists on the play.
Jones rounded out the scoring in the third with her fourth goal of the season at 9:27 of the third.
#Jamie Parhar (Calgary, Alberta)# (Calgary, AB) had the lone assist on the play.
Grant was solid in net, picking up her fourth win of the season. She turned aside all 21 shots she faced, including all 11 in the second period.
RIT outshot the Bears 42-21 and went 3-for-10 on the power play. The Tigers penalty killers stopped all seven of Potsdam's chances.
The Tigers, now 4-1-1 on the season, will face Potsdam tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm.
