ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's volleyball team wrapped up the NYS Regional Challenge held in the Clark Gym Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (18-22) went 2-2 on the weekend.
RIT opened the second day of the tournament with a 0-3 loss to NYU (22-13), who remained undefeated throughout.
The Tigers fought through the first game of the match, coming up with a four point lead at 20-16, before NYU dominated nine more points to win the game 25-22. The women dropped the second game 18-25 after a short lead in the middle. The teams traded points in the beginning of the third, until NYU took the fast track to pull ahead 19-10. The Tigers continued to fight, but lost the set 15-25.
The Tigers met a much more successful fate against Nazareth in the afternoon, winning 3-0. After three consecutive losses earlier in the season to the Golden Flyers, RIT stepped it up and took the match in three straight games.
With a 23-16 lead in the first game, RIT let in five points before finishing the game 25-20. The second game saw the same score. In the third set, RIT rallied from two separate four point deficits to tie it up and eventually lead 21-16. Nazareth couldn't get past RIT cohesive lineup, and RIT took the game 25-19.
RIT is back on the court when they travel to Hoboken, NJ to compete in the Empire 8 Championship Saturday, November 8.
