Men's Hockey Returns Home to Host Army This Weekend

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's hockey team hosts the Army Black Knights at Ritter Arena on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 at 7:05 p.m. in a pair of key Atlantic Hockey contests.

M & T Bank is sponsoring Friday's contest. On Saturday, Tim Horton's is the game sponsor, as it is Youth Hockey and Armed Services Night.  Any youth hockey player in eighth grade or below who wears their jersey, along with any member of the armed services who wears their uniform gets in free.    

RIT (3-5-1, 2-1-1 AHA) fell on the road at Niagara, 6-2 in a non-conference match-up last Friday.   Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) (Linwood, Ontario) and Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, Ontario/Nepean Raiders) (Nepean, Ontario) scored for the Tigers.  Two weeks ago on home ice, the Tigers won their first two Atlantic Hockey games of the season, 5-1 and 5-2 against Holy Cross.  Junior defenseman Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, Ontario) leads RIT with eight assists nine points, while Brenner, Sarazin and #Jesse Newman (Kelowna, British Columbia/Trail Smokeeaters)# (Westbank, British Columbia) each have four goals and seven points this season.

Army (2-4-1, 2-3-1 Atlantic Hockey) split a pair of games last weekend against American International, with each team winning on its home ice.  On Saturday, Owen Meyer recorded a goal and an assist, while Josh Kassel, the 2008 Atlantic Hockey Association Player of the Year, stopped 25 shots to lead Army to a 3-1 win.  Meyer leads Army with eight goals and 12 points in seven games this season.

The all-time series between the two schools is knotted at 1-1-2.  Last season, the two teams skated to back-to-back ties, 2-2 and 1-1 at Ritter Arena on Nov. 23-24.  RIT goaltender Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators) (Chicoutimi, Quebec) played in both games, stopping 62-of-65 shots.  In 2006-07, the two teams split a pair of games at West Point, with Army winning 2-1 on Dec. 29, 2006 and RIT collecting a 5-3 win the following night.
