ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT volleyball team (17-21, 5-3 Empire 8) split a pair of matches at the New York State Regional Challenge at Clark Gym on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers opened the day by falling in a five game heartbreaker against SUNY Brockport in the oprning match. RIT rebounded to win their second match of the day in three games over Ithaca.
The Tigers took a decisive win in the first game, winning 25-13, before dropping the next two with close scores of 25-20 and 25-22. RIT rallied in the fourth game 25-18 to tie up the match. At the end of a seesaw battle in which the teams traded points in the fifth, RIT fell behind, losing by a narrow margin, 15-13.

Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) led the team with 17 kills. Freshman

Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) was a force at the net, tallying 36 assists and five blocks. Junior
Jen Hayes (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) hit .461 with six kills.
The Golden Eagles were led by Alyssa Fitchette with 16 kills, Bethany Schlegel who marked 16 digs and Amanda Yachette, with 37 assists.
RIT defeated Ithaca, 25-15, 26-24, 25-19 in the second match.
Ashlie Baker (Northridge, UT/Northridge) (Northridge, UT/Northridge) hit a career-best .608 with 16 kills. Boxler dished out 32 assists, led the team with eight digs and recorded three service aces.
The Tigers are back on the court on Sunday, as they host NYU at 12:30 p.m. and Nazareth at 3 p.m.
