Women's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with 6-3 Win Over SUNY Cortland; Move to 8-3 Overall

The RIT women's tennis team closed out their regular season with a 6-3 win over SUNY Cortland on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at RIT Courts.  The women end the regular season with an overall record of 8-3 and remain 7-1 in the Empire 8 conference.

The Tigers dominated in doubles, taking all three points.  The dynamic first doubles duo of senior Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and sophomore Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) won their singles 8-3, pushing their record to an impressive 11-2, while seniors JoJo Cash (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Sara Paduano (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) (N. Tonawanda, NY/N. Tonawanda) stepped up to take second singles 8-6.  Senior #Kseniya Klyachko (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro)# (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) paired up with sophomore #Michele Caporali# (Endicott/Union Endicott) at third doubles to win their match 8-6. 

Berg ended the regular season with a record of 13-2 at first singles, winning her match 6-1, 6-0.  Francisco battled out a tough match at second, falling to her opponent in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 8-10.  Caporali took a tough loss at third, falling 6-0, 6-2, while Cash garnered a spotlight win at fourth singles, winning with a close 7-5, 6-3 score.  Paduano took the first set of her match 6-0, before her opponent defaulted in the second.  Freshman #Lindsey Gibson (Glastonbury, CT/Mercy)# (Glastonbury, CT/Mercy) was defeated for the first time this season, losing at sixth singles 2-6, 4-6. 

The Tigers, seeded second in conference, will travel to Hoboken, N.J. this weekend to compete in the Empire 8 Championships.  Their first match, against #3 Nazareth College in the semifinals, is Saturday at 2 p.m.
