ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team closed their conference season and secured the #2 seed for next week's Empire 8 Tournament with an 8-1 win over Alfred University on Wednesday at the Gordon Field House. This pushes RIT's overall record to 7-3 and 7-1 in conference play.
The Tigers held at doubles, winning all three matches. The first doubles duo of sophomore
Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) and senior
Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) improved their record to 10-2, defeating their opponents 8-4. Senior
Kseniya Klyachko (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and junior
Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal) took their match at second doubles, winning 8-3, while seniors
Joanna Cash (Rochester, NY/Brighton) (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and
Sara Paduano (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) (N. Tonawanda, NY/N. Tonawanda) swept their opponents at third doubles, 8-1.
Berg, named Empire 8 Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, also improved her singles record to 12-2, defeating her opponent at first singles 6-4, 6-1. Francisco stole an easy win at second, 6-1, 6-0, while Stanley stepped up her inidividual record to 6-4 defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-0 at third. Wins also came from Cash at fifth, taking her opponent 6-2, 6-4, and Paduano at sixth, winning 6-3, 6-0.
The Tigers are back on the court Friday, when they travel to LeMoyne to compete in a non-conference match starting at 4 p.m.
