ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team shot 56.9% for the game en route to a 70-56 win over Elmira College (5-10, 2-5 E8) in Empire 8 action on Friday at Clark Gymnasium.
The Tigers opened their big lead thanks to a 26-9 run to close out the first half. RIT was hot from the floor, shooting 59.3% in the first half. The Tigers were also 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) led RIT with 14 first-half points. He went 5-for-8 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point land.
RIT's defense was solid in the first half, holding the Soaring Eagles to 29.2% shooting from the floor. The Tigers forced the Soaring Eagles into 12 first-half turnovers, scoring 13 points off the turnovers.
Elmira opened the second half with a 16-6 run, closing to within nine points on a layup by John Adamson making it 46-37 RIT.
That would be as close as the Soaring Eagles would get as RIT pulled away for their third straight win and fourth in their last five games.
RIT was hot from behind the arc, making 10-of-22 shots from three-point land.
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) led the barrage, draining five buckets from downtown.
Shane Foster (Woodland Hills, CA/Calabasas) (Woodland Hills, CA/Calabasas) and
Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) each had a pair of three-pointers.
The Tigers, now 9-6 on the season and 3-3 in the Empire 8, shot 56.9% from the floor for the game, making 29-of-51 shots from the floor. The Tigers also forced Elmira into 19 turnovers, scoring 25 points off the turnovers.
Zeinfeld led the Tigers with 19 points.
Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) added 14 points and
Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) chipped in nine points off the bench.
RIT will face Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm in Clark Gymnasium.
