Softball Wins Two at Elmira; Clinch Empire 8 Playoff Spot

ELMIRA, NY -
The RIT softball team clinched a spot in the Empire 8 tournament, sweeping a doubleheader at conference foe Elmira on Thursday afternoon.  The Tigers rolled in game one 8-0 and came back to win game two 7-6.

The Tigers improve to 13-17 overall and 6-6 in the Empire 8.  RIT will be the #4 seed in the Empire 8 Tournament.  The tournament begins on Friday, May 4 at Ithaca. 

RIT trailed 6-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning in game two.  The Tigers rallied with four runs in the fourth and took the lead with a pair in the sixth.

Shila Wells (Underhill, VT/Essex) (Underhill, VT/Essex) picked up the win in relief, pitching four innings of scoreless ball.

Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego) had two doubles and two RBI.  Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) came off the bench to go 2 for 2 with a pair of runs scored.

In game one, Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) pitched a complete game three-hitter, striking pout six to earn her eighth win of the year.

RIT slammed 15 hits in game one.  Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) had three hits, including two doubles and a RBI.  Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) drove in three runs, while Jenna Kilroy (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) had two hits each.

The Tigers finish the regular season with a home doubleheader against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday at 12 p.m.
