RIT hurler
Shila Wells (Underhill, VT/Essex) (Underhill, VT/Essex) was excellent on the mound in game one, allowing just four hits and striking out six batters, walking just one to pick up her second win of the season.
Keuka opened the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the second inning.
RIT evened the score in the bottom of the fourth, as
Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) ripped a one-out double off the centerfield fence. Two batters later, Wells drove in Hanzlik with an infield single.
The Tigers pulled ahead with single runs in the fifth and sixth to take control.
Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego) singled to drive in
Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) to give RIT a 2-1 lead. In the sixth,
Jessica Ziomek (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored an insurance run on a wild pitch to put RIT up two.
That run would prove to be huge, as Keuka tallied an unearned run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Bethany Bridenbaugh.
In game two, Keuka got on the board first once again. In the top of the first, Amanda Witter led off with a bloop double to right and scored on a single by Amanda Piatek.
The next inning, Witter gave Keuka a 4-0 lead with a three-run home run to left center field.
RIT crept to within 4-1 in the bottom half of the second, as
Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) drove in Nailos with a RBI groundout.
Witter was 3-for-4 with a home run, double, two runs scored and five RBI for Keuka.
Jen Shaughnessy picked up the win on the mound for the Storm, allowing just one hit, and striking out four in six innings.
Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief for RIT, allowing two unearned runs to lower her earned run average to 2.22.
Nailos had RIT’s lone hit, a leadoff single in the second inning.
The Tigers are right back in action on Wednesday, as Utica comes back into town to complete last Friday’s suspended game. Action will pick up at 2:45 p.m. with RIT batting in the top of the ninth and the game tied at 4.
