ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon to Empire 8 foe, Alfred University, 5-2 and 11-3. The losses drop RIT to 9-16-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the Empire 8.

In game #1 the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI hits from Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) and Shila Wells (Underhill, VT/Essex) (Underhill, VT/Essex). Hanzlik doubled in Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA) and Wells drove in Hanzlik, giving RIT a 2-1 lead.

That score held until the top of the fifth when the Saxons had two hits and scored the tying run on a RBI single by Holly Seidewand.

The Tigers had a chance to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth but Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) was thrown out at home, killing a Tigers rally.

Alfred tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings, taking game #1 5-2.

Sniezek and Hanzlik each had two hits for the Tigers. Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) took the loss, going seven innings, allowing four earned runs, striking out nine and walking one.

Game two was tight throughout until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Saxons exploded for eight runs.

RIT took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a RBI single by Sniezek. After the Saxons took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second the Tigers responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third.

Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored on an error by the first baseman for Alfred. Allison Ingalls (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) drove in Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) who singled.

The Saxons tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third on an error by the Tigers.

The game remained tied until the botto of the sixth when Alfred scored eight times on eight hits.

The Tigers will host Keuka College on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm.
