BUFFALO, NY - The RIT softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Buffalo State College on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers battled the cold and rain, dropping game one 4-1 and game two by a score of 5-4.
In game one, the Tigers scored in the first inning for the third straight contest. Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) led off with a double and was driven in three batters later by Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic).
The Bengals scored two runs in the bottom of the first to go up 2-1. From there, Buffalo State starter Nicole Sabuda allowed just one more RIT hit, a seventh inning single by Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY/Hudson).
Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) took the loss in game one for the Tigers, allowing six hits and two earned runs in a complete game effort.
In game two, the Bengals jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and withstood a late RIT rally.
Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI. Jenna Kilroy (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) also had a double, while Shila Wells (Underhill, VT/Essex) (Underhill, VT/Essex) scored and drove in a run. Wells also started on the mound for RIT. She settled down after the rocky first inning, allowing just one run the rest of the way.
RIT falls to 6-12 in 2007, while Buffalo State improves to 14-4.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, as they host Skidmore College in a doubleheader at the RIT Field. The twin-bill gets underway at 3 p.m.
