FORT MYERS, FL - The RIT softball team evened its record at 2-2 with a pair of victories at the Gene Cusic Classic on Monday. RIT defeated Dubuque College 2-0 and then used a pair of four run innings to beat Alverno by a score of 11-8.
Senior Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was dominant against Dubuque, throwing a complete-game two-hit shutout. She walked one and struck out 11 to earn the victory.
RIT had just four hits themselves, but were able to eke out the victory. Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each had a hit and drove in one run.
In the second game of the day, the Tigers pounded 11 hits and came from behind to earn the win.
Breanna Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) was 3-for-5 with a RBI. Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) had two hits and drove in three runs. Jenna Kilroy (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) had a pair of hits.
Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) picked up the win in relief, striking out six batters and allowing just two runs in 4 2/3 innings. Keegan came on and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save.
The Tigers play Emmanuel College at 11 a.m. and Hiram College at 1 p.m. at the Gene Cusic Classic.
