ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT softball team (4-8) returned to action for the first time in three weeks on Friday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader against the University of Rochester (10-5). The Tigers won the opener, 5-2, while the Yellowjackets took the nitecap, 6-5.< p="">

Senior pitcher Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) picked up her third win of the season in game one to help lead RIT to the win.  Keegan struck out 10 and walked one, scattering nine hits.

RIT had 11 hits in game one, as eight of the nine Tiger batters had at least one hit.   RIT scored single runs in the third through sixth innings to break a 1-1 tie .

Senior Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.  Breanna Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) and Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) each scored a run and had two hits.

In the nitecap, Rochester scored four runs in the second inning on five hits to open a 4-1 lead. It ballooned to 6-2 in the fourth with two more runs.

Hanzlik made things interesting in the top of the seventh, as she hit a two-out, bases-clearing double to get the Tigers within one.  With Hanzlik on second representing the tying run, cleanup hitter Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) lined out to end the game.

Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego) was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.  Jessica Ziomek (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) was 1-for-3 with a run scored.  Nailos drove in a run for the Tigers.

Beth Ameno went the distance to get her fourth win of the season for Rochester. She allowed eight hits, walked one, and struck out 11 Tigers.

Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) started game two for the Tigers and took the loss, allowing four runs in two innings.

RIT pounded 19 hits in the two games

The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, as they travel to play RPI at 1 p.m.
