Men's Basketball Shoots 31-for-37 From The Line in Win Over Nazareth

, NY – The RIT men’s basketball team shot 31-for-37 from the free throw line and had had three players combine for 59 points, gutting out a 86-79 win over Nazareth College in Empire 8 action on Tuesday evening.
 
With the win, RIT improves to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in Empire 8 play.  Nazareth is now 7-9 and 2-3 in conference play.  The Tigers have now won three straight, all in conference play.
 
The victory was the second of the season for RIT over Nazareth and the 11th straight over the Golden Flyers.

Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) led the way with 22 points and three steals.  Tim Bacon (Massena. NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena) shot 9-for-12 from the line, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds.  Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) was 10-for-11 from the line en route to 18 points.
 
Randy Muldrow (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) scored all nine of points in the first half, while Rick Whitwood (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) had eight points and five boards.
 
The Tigers shot 54.3 percent from the field in the contest and 83.8 percent from the line.
 
Nazareth went on a 17-3 run midway though the second half to erase a 12-point Tiger lead and go up 65-63.
 
RIT responded, going on a 18-7 run right after, spurred on by the outstanding foul shooting to take a 81-72 lead.
 
Corey McAdam had an outstanding game for the Golden Flyers, finishing with 23 points and nine assists.  Joe Canori had 21 points in the loss.
 
For the third straight game, the Tigers came out firing, as they put up 48 first half points and shot 59.3 percent (16-for-27) from the field.  They led 48-37 at the break.
 
RIT went on a 12-0 run over a three-minute span midway through the first half to break a 21-21 tie.
 
Muldrow gave the Tigers a big spark, recording nine points on perfect shooting in just five minutes of play.  Zeinfeld and Bacon combined for 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
 
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, as they host Utica at the Clark Gym.  Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
