ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's basketball team (8-7, 2-2 Empire 8) scored a season-high 90 points and shot 54.2 percent from the field, as the Tigers defeated Ithaca College 90-84 in an Empire 8 contest at Ben Light Gymnasium.
RIT trailed 59-57 with 11:37 left before going on a 17-3 run over the next 3:56 to take a 74-62 lead and hang on for the win.
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) scored 11 of RIT's 17 points during the run. The junior guard scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half for RIT. Zeinfeld was 6-for-8 from the field and was 12-for-14 from the free throw line.
Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Tim Bacon (Massena. NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena) chipped in with 15 points and six boards. Sophomore guard Rick Whitwood (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) had 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Rob Hampton (Ocala, FL/Belleview) (Ocala, FL/Belleview) recorded eight points.
The Tigers, for the second straight game, held a big advantage on the boards, out-rebounding Ithaca 40-21. RIT had 18 offensive rebounds and shot 32-for-59 from the field. They also made a season-best 20 free throws.
The game was tied 41-41 at halftime.
There were 14 ties during the game.
Jeff Bostic led Ithaca (8-7, 3-2 Empire 8) with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Sean Burton nailed five 3-pointers en route to scoring 23 points. Burton also dished out eight assists.
Ithaca shot 31-for-62 (50 percent) from the field.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to Nazareth to play the Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 contest at 8 p.m.
