Men's Basketball Uses Big Second Half Run to Defeat Nazareth

 Sophomore guard Barrett Zeinfeld (Tuscon, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) scored all 15 of his points during a decisive 24-5 run during the second half, lifting the RIT men's basketball team (13-8, 7-3 Empire 8) over conference rival Nazareth (8-13, 5-5 Empire 8) 78-68 at the Kidera Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

Jeff DeHimer put Nazareth up 47-41 with 13:06 left in the second half.  Colin Roy (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) (Malta, NY/Malta) hit a 3-pointer and Brian Hill (Rochester, NY/Wheatland-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Wheatland-Chili) made a lay-up to cut the Nazareth lead to 47-46.  After Tyler Smith put Nazareth up 49-46 with a lay-up, Zeinfeld scored RIT's next 15 points, all on three-pointers over a 4:19 span to put the Tigers up 61-52.  Drew Martin (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Tyler Springer (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) (Endwell, NY/Endwell) added made lay-ups on consecutive possessions to cap the ru and put RIT up 65-52 with 3:57 remaining.   From there, the Tigers completed their scoring by making 13 of 15 free-throws to put the game away.

Tim Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena) led five Tigers in double figures with 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting.  Bacon scored 14 points and made all of his six field goals in the first half.  Springer finished with 13 points and four assists.  He was clutch from the free-throw line down the stretch, making 7 of 8.  Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) had another solid game for the Tigers, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.  Both Snyder and Bacon led RIT with six rebounds each.  Hill scored 10 points on 3 of 3 shooting from the field.

Snyder moved into sixth place in all-time scoring at RIT tonight, with 1,237 career points, passing Charlie Bartlett '95 who had 1,231 in his career.

Ryan McAdam led Nazareth with 20 points.  Joe Canori added 17, while Tyler Smith nearly had a double-double, scoring 12 points and snagging nine rebounds.

RIT led 32-28 at the intermission, shooting 43 percent from the field.  The Tigers were very accurate over the game's final 20 minutes, hitting 53 percent of their shots from the field and 58 percent (7 of 12) from behind the 3-point arc.

Nazareth dominated the boards, out-rebounding RIT 44-34.  The Golden Flyers grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and took 20 more field goal attempts than the Tigers.  Nazareth shot just 38 percent from the field in the contest.

Martin had a solid all-around game for RIT, scoring six points, dishing out four assists, recording two steals and a block, while playing great defense.

The Tigers have won nine straight versus the Golden Flyers, dating back to the 2002-03 season.

RIT is back in action on Friday, as they travel to play conference foe Utica College.  Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
