ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball tied a school record for three-pointers in a game with 16 in a 97-71 win over Elmira College. The Tigers shot 66.7% from the floor, including 73.9% in the second half en route to the win. RIT improves to 12-7 overall ad 6-2 in the Empire 8 and Elmira falls o 3-16 on the season and 0-8 in the Empire 8.
RIT led throughout a close first half. Elmira kept the score close thanks to some hot three point shooting. The Tigers led by as many as 11 points in the first half but Elmira ran off nine straight points to end the half trailing 42-40 at the break. Tim Ingalls three-pointer at the buzzer pulled the Soaring Eagles to within two points.
RIT shot 60.7% from the floor in the first half on 17-of-28 shooting. The Tigers were 6 of 15 from three point land and 2 for 2 from the free throw line.
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tuscon, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) led RIT with 14 points.
Brian Hill (Rochester, NY/Wheatland-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Wheatland Chili) had nine points off the bench to help the Tigers out.
Elmira shot 48.3% from the floor in the first half on 14-of-29 shooting. The Soaring Eagles were 8 of 13 from three-point land and 4 for 4 from the chairty stripe. Nick Molak led Elmira with 12 points, while Micah Owens and Matt Keating each had nine points.
RIT opened the second half with an 18-8 run, expanding their lead to 12 points on a three-pointer by
Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) (Buffalo, NY/Bishp Timon St. Jude). The Tigers were on fire in the second half shooting 73.9% from the floor and 76.9% from behind the arc. Ten of RIT's 17 baskets in the second half were from three-point land.
RIT was able to expand their lead as the half went on, leading by as many as 26 points.
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tuscon, AZ/Catalina Foothills) led RIT with 25 points. He shot 8 of 11 from the floor, including seven three-pointers.
Brian Hill (Rochester, NY/Wheatland-Chili) had 13 points and
Kris Kowalczyk (Albany, NY/Colonie) (Albany, NY/Colonie) added 10 points.
Tim Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) had four points and six rebounds. All but one player scored for RIT on this night.
Elmira was led by Micah Owens who had 26 points and six rebounds. Nick Molak had 15 points and five assists, while Matt Keating had 11 points.
RIT will face Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
