ROCHESTER, NY – RIT men’s hockey rebounded from an overtime defeat on Friday with a 5-1 victory over Bentley College on Saturday night. Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) had two goals and an assist to pace the Tigers offense.

RIT led 2-0 after the first period on goals from Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) and Matt Smith (Toronto, ON/Kitchener Dutchmen). Lambert got the game’s first goal at 4:08 with the Tigers on the power play. Smith fed Lambert who beat Ray Jean with a good hard shot for a 1-0 RIT lead.

“It was important to get the first two goals in the first period,” said RIT Head Coach Wayne Wilson. “It helped us get the momentum for the second and third periods.”

Smith gave RIT a two-goal lead at 14:57 of the first on assists from Jesse Newman (Westbank, BC/Trail Smoke Easters) and Brent Patry (Ottawa, ON/Cumberland Grads). Newman broke into the zone and dropped a pass back to Smith who fired a slap shot that whistled over Jean’s right shoulder.

Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, PQ/Ottawa Jr. Senators) was excellent for RIT in the first period, stopping all 11 shots he faced as RIT out shot the Falcons 14-11.

Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) tallied the lone goal of the second period. With RIT killing off a two-man advantage Brad Harris (Winnipeg, MB/Leamington Flyers) dug the puck out of the corner and fed Lambert who sniped a goal past Jean for his second of the night and fifth of the season.

Menard continued his strong game, stopping all 10 shots he faced in the second period. The Tigers killed off three penalties in the period, including a two-man power play midway through the period.

Anton Kharin (Moscow, Russia/Bay State Breakers) made it 4-0 RIT at 1:39 of the third period with his fifth goal of the season. Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) and Darrell Draper (Tigard, OR/Cowichon Capitals) had the assists on the play.

Steve Pinizzotto (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Blades) gave the Tigers a 5-0 lead late in the third period. Pinizzotto scored his fifth goal of the season as he was being dragged down to the ice by a Bentley defender.

Paul Scalici spoiled Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, PQ/Ottawa Jr. Senators)’s shut out attempt, scoring on a partial breakaway at 18:06 of the third on an assist from Nick DeCroo.

Menard finished with 29 saves as RIT out shot the Falcons 32-30. RIT went 1-for-5 on the power play and stopped all five of Bentley’s chances.

RIT is off until December 2 when they host Atlantic Hockey Association foe Holy Cross at 7 pm.
