ROCHESTER, NY -- Bentley's Dain Prewitt scored at 2:58 into overtime to give the Falcons a 3-2 win over RIT in Atlantic Hockey action on Friday night. Prewitt broke in on an odd-man rush and beat Jocelyn Guimond (Quebec City, PQ/Williams Lake) with a shot that trickled through his legs.

"You can't give up breakaways," said RIT head coach Wayne Wilson. "We took too many chances and Bentley was patient and came away with a win tonight."

The loss drops RIT to 3-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the Atlantic Hockey Association. Bentley improves to 5-4-1 overall and vaults past RIT in the AHA standings with a 4-3 conference record.

Matt Smith (Toronto, ON/Kitchener Dutchmen) (Toronto, ON) had the period’s lone goal, scoring a power play goal at 3:45 of the first on assists from Dan Ringwald (Oakville, ON/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, ON) and Al Mazur (Burnaby, BC/Langley Hornets) (Burnaby, BC). Ringwald spotted Smith camped out at the side of the net and fed him a cross-ice pass that he poked home on the second attempt giving RIT a 1-0 lead.

Bentley rallied back in the second period, scoring two goals. The Falcons tied the game at 10:18 of the period on an even-strength goal from Pat Percela.

Jeff Gumaer gave Bentley a 2-1 lead at 14:02 of the second on an assist from Paul Scalici. He broke in after a nice move to get free and beat Guimond with a shot over his left shoulder.

Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) (Ste.-Therese, PQ) tied the game at 2-2 on a power play goal at 18:10. The Tigers put tremendous pressure on the Falcons penalty killers. Lambert tried centering a pass that deflected off a Bentley defender and into the back of the net. Matt Smith (Toronto, ON/Kitchener Dutchmen) and Dan Ringwald (Oakville, ON/Oakville Blades) had the assists on the play.

Both goalies were sharp in the third period, making spectacular saves for their teams. Ray Jean made 12 stops in the third period for Bentley and Jocleyn Guimond stopped eight shots for the Tigers.

"I thought we had a lot of great chances," said Wilson. "We created some good opportunities but coould not convert."

RIT out shot Bentley 39-25 as Ray Jean stopped 37 shots for the Falcons. Jocleyn Guimond (Quebec City, PQ) took the loss, making 32 saves and allowing three goals.

Bentley went 0-for-8 on the power play and RIT went 2-for-8 with the man advantage. Wilson was pleased with the play of RIT's special teams. Each team took 10 penalties for 20 minutes.

These two teams will meet again on Saturday evening at 7 pm in Atlantic Hockey Action at Ritter Arena.
