BUFFALO, NY – RIT goaltender Jocelyn Guimond (Quebec City, PQ/Williams Lake) made 29 saves, leading the Tigers to a 4-2 win over Canisius College on Friday evening at the Pepsi Arena. The win improves RIT to 3-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Atlantic Hockey Association. Canisius drops to 2-3-1.

Anton Kharin (Moscow, Russia/Bay State Breakers) (Twin Lakes, MI) got RIT on the scoreboard at 11:50 of the first period. Matt Smith (Toronto, ON/Kitchener Dutchmen) (Toronto, ON) took the initial shot that was saved by Canisius goaltender Andrew Loewen. The rebound came right to Kharin who was crashing the net and he was able to get his stick on the rebound and poke it home.

Justin Hofstetter (Bright, ON/Cambridge Winterhawks) (Bright, ON) made it 2-0 RIT 26 seconds later with his third goal of the season. Jesse Newman (Westbank, BC/Trail Smoke Easters) (Westbank, ON) and Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) (Ste.-Therese, PQ) had the assists on the play. Hoftstetter pinched down from his defense position and beat Loewen for the even strength goal.

RIT took a 3-0 lead just 23 seconds into the second period on a goal by Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, ON/Nepean Raiders) (Nepean, ON). Dan Ringwald (Oakville, ON/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, ON) and Stephen Burns (Newmarket, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) (Newmarket, ON) had the assists on the play.

Canisius ratcheted up the pressure and pulled to within 3-2 on goals from Josh Heidinger and Billy Irish-Baker.

The Tigers closed out the scoring in the second period with a power play goal by Matt Smith (Toronto, ON/Kitchener Dutchmen). Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads) fed a wide open Smith who was parked in the slot, scoring his fourth goal of the season.

Jocelyn Guimond (Quebec City, PQ/Williams Lake) (Quebec City, PQ) kept RIT in the lead with great save after great save. The junior netminder made 13 saves in the period, many from close range.

Despite no scoring in the third period there was some excitement. Late in the third RIT had to kill off a two-man power play by the Golden Griffins. The Tigers penalty-kill unit came up big and Jocelyn Guimond (Quebec City, PQ/Williams Lake) made several great saves to keep Canisius at two goals.

RIT is back action on Saturday, October 28 when they face #13 Cornell University. That begins at 8 pm in Ithaca, New York.
