Men's Basketball Defats Nazareth in Double Overtime; Claim Seventh Place at 2006 J.P. Morgan Chase Tournament

ROCHESTER
, NY Fran Snyder (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon St. Jude) recorded his second double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds, as RIT defeated Nazareth 91-86 in double overtime in the seventh place game of the 2006 JP Morgan Chase Scholarship Tournament held at the Clark Gym on Saturday.
 
RIT (6-6) trailed 84-81 with 2:22 left in the second overtime before Tyler Springer (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) hit a 3-pointer to tie the score and then put the Tigers 85-84 with a free-throw with 42 seconds left.  The Tigers stopped Nazareth on consecutive possessions and Kris Kowalczyk (Albany, NY/Colonie) (Albany, NY/Colonie) and Barrett Zeinfeld (Tuscon, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) hit six straight free throws to seal the win.
 
Kowalczyk scored a career-high 20 points for the Tigers, hitting four 3-pointers and shooting 8-for-9 from the foul line.  Snyder shot 10-for-17 from the field and drained five 3-pointers. 
 
Freshman Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) chipped with in a career-best 11 points and added four boards.  Rob Hampton (Ocala, FL/Belleview) (Ocala, FL/Belleview) scored 10 points in the win, as RIT snapped a two-game losing skid.  
 
Nazareth led 30-25 at the half.  The Golden Flyers led 27-19 with 2:22 left before RIT went on a 6-0 run, culminating with a wild, circus-like lay-up by Tim Bacon (Massena, NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena) while fouled to get within two in the final minute of the half.
 
For the third straight game, RIT got themselves off to a rough start from the field, shooting just 26.7 percent (8-for-30) in the first half, while Nazareth made 11-of-24 baskets.
 
Overall, RIT shot 43.3 percent from the field, while Nazareth made 49 percent of their field goals. 
 
Joe Canori led four Golden Flyers (4-9) in double figures with 24 points.  Kyle Nelson dished out 13 assists to go along with 12 points.
 
RIT is back in action on Tuesday, as they host D’Youville at 7 p.m.
