Men's Hockey Loses to Manhattanville in ECAC Semis

UTICA, NY -- The RIT men's hockey team fell to Manhattanville College, 6-2 this afternoon in the semifinals of the ECAC West Playoffs. The Tigers finish the 2004-05 season with a 13-10-1 record. Manhattanville moves on to face the winner of the Utica versus Elmira game in the ECAC West title game.

Manhattanville took a 1-0 lead at the
3:16 mark of the first on a power play goal by Jason Murfitt. He took a pass from Jason Kenyon, who was behind the net, and one-timed a shot past RIT goalie David Wrisley (Ithaca, NY/Northwood Prep) giving the Valiants the lead.

Justin Rohr made it 2-0 Manhattanville with his even-strength goal at
4:47 of the first on assists from Brad Olson and Neil Clark.

RIT got on the board at the
14:07 mark of the first onn Ricky Walton (Hamilton, Ont./Hamilton Kilty Bees)'s (Hamilton, Ontario) breakaway goal. Walton took a pass from Matt Harris (Toronto, Ont./Ajax Axemen) (Toronto, Ontario) and sped down the left side, out skating the Valiants' defense. He broke in on Jay Chrapala and roofed a back-handed shot over Chrapala's shoulder, cutting the Valiants lead to 2-1.

RIT tied the score at the
19:51 on a rebound goal by Tristan Fairbarn (Innisfill, Ont./Newmarket Hurricanes) (Innisfill, Ontario). Darren Doherty (Duoro, Ont./Cobourg Cougars) (Douro, Ontario) ripped a shot that Chrapala saved but the rebound came right to Fairbarn who jammed the puck home, tying the score at 2-2.

Manhattanville out shot RIT 17-11 in the first period were 0-1 on the power play. Manhattanville was 1-2 on the man advantage.

Manhattanville regained the lead 50 seconds into the second period on a goal by Jason Menzies. Jason Murfitt tried a wrap around shot but Wrisley was right there with the paddle to make the save. The rebound went to Menzies beat Wrisley for a 3-2 lead.

Manhattanville converted on the power play at the
2:32 mark of the second giving the Valiants a 4-2 advantage. Murfitt sent home a rebound for his second tally of the game after Wrisley came up with two saves on shots by Chad Van Diemen and Jason Kenyon.

The Valiants made it 5-2 at
11:46 of the second on a goal by B.J. Greaves. Murfitt and Menzies had the assists.

Manhattanville put the game away at 2:44 of the third when Ross Oldcorn intercepted a pass at the top of RIT's zone and broke in alone, beating Wrisley for a 6-2 lead.

RIT was out shot by Manhattanville 54-34 as the Tigers were 0-5 on the power play. David Wrisley (Ithaca, NY/Northwood Prep) made 43 saves in net for RIT.
