HERSHEY, PA -- The RIT men's hockey team won their second game of the weekend and third straight overall on Saturday with a 7-4 win over Lebanon Valley College. The win improves the 15th ranked Tigers to 12-6-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the ECAC West.
Senior
Jason Chafe (Stoney Creek, Ont./Burlington Cougars) (Stoney Creek, Ontario) led RIT with two goals and an assist on Saturday, while freshman
Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, Quebec/Cumberland Grads) (Ste.-Therese, Quebec) added a goal and two assists.
After RIT gave up an early goal in the first period Chafe tied the score at 1-1 on a power play goal at 7:52 on assists from
Marc Hyman (Thornhill, Ont./Thornhill Rattlers) (Thorhill, Ontario) and
Darren Doherty (Duoro, Ont./Cobourg Cougars) (Douro, Ontario).RIT's power play struck again at 8:33 of the first on a goal by
Brad Harris (Portage La Prairie, Man./Leamington Flyers) (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba) with assists going to
Darrell Draper (/Cowichon Caitals) (Portland, OR) and Lambert.
Craig Hupp (Houston, TX/Shattuck-St. Marys)'s (Houston TX) goal at the nine minute mark on assists from
Roberto Orofiamma (Woodbridge, Ont./Vaughn Vipers) (Woodbridge, Ontario) and
Brent Patry (Ottawa, Ont./Cumberland Grads) (Ottawa, Ontario) of the first gave the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.
Labanon Valley's Alex Beatrice tallied a goal at 15:12 of the first cutting RIT's lead to 3-2.
Beatrice scored at 3:46 of the second to tie the score at 3-3 and Brendon Herr gave Lebanon Valley the lead once again with his goal at 6:21.
Lebanon Valley's lead was short-lived as Lambert tied the score at 4-4 with an even strength goal at 6:21.
Freshman
Brandon Mulholland (Newmarket, Ont./Newmarket Hurricanes)'s (Newmarket, Ontario) goal at 13:40 of the second would prove to be the game-winner as the Tigers defense held Lebanon Valley scoreless the rest of the game.
Jason Chafe (Stoney Creek, Ont./Burlington Cougars) and
Ricky Walton (Hamilton, Ont./Hamilton Kilty Bees) (Hamilton, Ontario) added goals to extend the RIT's lead to 7-4.
RIT's power play went 3-7 on Saturday as the Tigers outshot Lebanon Valley 46-36. RIT's penalty killing unti held Lebanon Valley scoreless on eight attempts.
George Eliopoulos (Markham, Ont./St. Michaels Buzzers) (Markham, Ontario) played all 60 minutes and made 32 saves earning his 12th win of the season.
RIT resumes action on Friday night when they face ECAC West foe Utica College at 7 p.m. in Utica, New York.
