ROCHESTER, NY -- The #6 RIT men's hockey team impoved to 3-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the ECAC West with a 2-1 win over Utica College (2-3-0, 1-1-0 ECAC West) on Saturday night at Ritter Arena. Freshman Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, Quebec/Cumberland Grads) (Ste.-Therese, PQ) tallied the game-winning goal for RIT at 10:24 of the second. The Tigers penalty kill unit held Utica scoreless in eight tries and have stopped the last 22 power play chances by their opponents.

Utica came out and controlled much of the play in the first period, firing 15 shots on goal. RIT goalie George Eliopoulos (Markham, Ont./St. Michaels Buzzers) (Markham, Ontario) kept the Pioneers at bay making several big stops.

The Pioneers finally broke through at the 11:12 mark of the first period when Justin Schachtler fired a shot from the slot that whizzed over Eliopoulos' head and into the goal for a 1-0 Utica lead.

RIT struck back just 22 seconds later on junior Marc Hyman (Thornhill, Ont./Thornhill Rattlers)'s (Thornhill, Ontario) third goal of the season. Hyman took a feed from Darren Doherty (Duoro, Ont./Cobourg Cougars) (Douro, Ontario) at the point and ripped a shot beating Utica goalie Adam Dekker and tying the score at 1-1.

That score would remain tied until the 10:24 mark of the second. Jason Chafe (Stoney Creek, Ont./Burlington Cougars) (Stoney Creek, Ontario) sprung Lambert at Utica's blue-line who broke in alone on Dekker. Lambert double deeked Dekker for his third goal of the season.

Eliopoulos and the Tigers' defense took over from there, holding the Pioneers scoreless over the final period, including killing off three penalties. The Tigers extend their streak of successful penalty kills to 22 dating back to the third period of the second St. Norbert game.

Eliopoulos turned in another outstanding performance for RIT, stopping 28 of 29 shots he faced.

The Tigers will travel to Manhattanville College next Saturday night for a 7 p.m. start.
