Women's Volleyball Finishes 3-1 at Empire 8 Crossover Weekend; Earn Second Seed in Conference Tournament

UTICA, NY - The RIT Women's Volleyball team will be the number two seed at the Empire 8 Tournanent in two weekends after earning a split in day two of the Empire 8 Crossover Weekend matches held at Utica College on Sunday.  The Tigers won both of their matches on Saturday to finish 3-1 on the weekend.

In today's first match, the Tigers extended their winning streak to 10 matches with a 30-17, 30-21, 30-26 victory over Hartwick College.  Junior outside hitter Bonnie Harriman (Danbury, CT/Danbury) (Danbury, CT/Danbury) led the squad with 12 kills.  Senior setter Sarah Ballard (Lake View, NY/Frontier) (Lake View, NY/Frontier) compiled 25 assists, while junior libero Laura Grell (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) recorded 25 digs.

RIT saw their 10-match winning streak snapped in the final match of the afternoon, as they fell to rival Ithaca College in four games, 30-27, 27-30, 24-30, 26-30.  Junior outside hitter Christina Anabel (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) recorded 26 digs to go along with 17 kills, both team highs.  Ballard finished with 45 assists in the losing effort.

With the win, Ithaca will host the Empire 8 Tournament on Saturday, November 6th.  The Tigers will play Nazareth in the first semi-final, while Ithaca and St. John Fisher will square off in the second semifinal match.

On Saturday, RIT defeated Utica and Elmira in day one of the Empire 8 Crossover Weekend.

RIT (19-10, 6-1 Empire 8) will look to get back on the winning streak on Tuesday, as they host Buffalo State at the Clark Gym at 7 p.m.
