Tiger Volleyball Defeat Alfred University 3-1

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Rochester Institute of Technology volleyball team not only battled the Alfred Saxons, but many members of the team suffered from agonizing head colds. However the Tigers pulled out a 3-1 (30-27,24-30, 30-21, 30-25) victory to improve their record to 13-6.

Head Coach Roger Worsley was able to experiment with several line-up combinations giving many newcomers the opportunity to demonstrate their talents. Stephanie Williams (Harleysville, Pa./Landsdale Catholic) (Harleysville, Pa) led this new arrangement with 12 digs while teammate Jackie Russo (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) (Canastota, N.Y.) tallied her first collegiate points with three kills.

Chris Anabel (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) (Apalachin, N.Y.) led the Tigers attack amassing 16 kills, and 12 digs. Co-captain Katie Sander (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) (Scotia, N.Y.) tallied 12 kills, 13 digs and three aces to close out the night. Other Tiger netters to reveal their talents were Laurie Underhill (East Aurora, N.Y./Mercy Adacemy) (East Aurora, N.Y.) pacing the team in blocks with five, Bonnie Harriman (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) (Danbury, Conn) with eight kills, ten digs, and Laura Grell (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) (Lancaster, N.Y.) with 11 digs.

The Tigers will return to action this weekend when they travel to Wittenberg, Ohio. RIT will face three nationally ranked teams Wittenberg University (14), Baldwin-Wallace (21), and Nazareth College (23).
