Click for St. John Fisher vs. RIT BoxscorePITTSFORD, N.Y.- The Rochester Institute of Technology volleyball team rallied in the third match to take three straight for the 3-2 (27-30, 21-30, 30-23, 30-15, 15-11) victory of St. John Fisher. The Tigers move to 14-10 overall and 2-1 in Empire8.
The Cardinals capitalized on early Tiger mistakes grabbing the 2-0 lead heading into the third match. The Tigers had an unacceptable 16 serving error for the game allowing Fisher to dominate for most of the match.
The Tigers were sparked by outstanding defensive plays by junior Missy Groginski (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) (Brewerton, N.Y.) and co-captain Katie Sander (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) (Scotia, N.Y.). Groginski closed out the night with 12 kills and 35 digs while Sander followed up with 11 kills, 31 digs and nine blocks. Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, Chris Anabel (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) (Apalachin, N.Y.) tallied 12 kills and grabbed 22 digs to remain as one of the top hitters for RIT.
The Tigers will travel to New York University this weekend to participate in the Tournament of Champions. The tournament will be a two-day event where RIT will compete against some of the top teams in western New York.
