The Tigers spotted U of R a one-length lead in the 1,900 meter race with just under 900 meters remaining. Immediately, second year coxswain, Diane Seaver got the crew together and made a call to charge after Rochester. A little over 500 meters later, RIT pulled even with Rochester. In the final 250 meters of the race, RIT once again moved through Rochester, finishing six seconds ahead of the Yellowjackets. RIT Head Coach Jim Bodenstedt commented, "Coxin Diane Seaver won that race. Absolutely, it takes all nine oarswomen to win the race, but this is a perfect example of how important the role of the coxswain is, and how a good coxie can make all the difference. Diane was the difference today and proved it to her fellow oarswomen. It's rare that a rowing coach heralds one rower, but I have to say that I was impressed at how she handled a very difficult situation. Diane willed the win. The crew proved its tenacity.
