SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – RIT men's crew finished the fall rowing season in solid fashion with the varsity men's eight placing fifth overall in a fast field of 27 crews at the Head of the Fish Regatta. Weather conditions were near perfect on a beautiful day as the Tigers chased down their competition against the clock in the 3,200 meter race.
Columbia and Wesleyan finished first and second, respectively, in 10:03.25 and 10:23.23. Marist, Boston College, and RIT all finished within a second of each other. Marist finished third in a time of 10:29.57. Boston College finished fourth in a time of 10:30.45 with RIT following by one one-hundredth of a second in 10:30.46.
Head Coach
Jim Bodenstedt commented after the racing, "I think one thing that the varsity men are learning is that every stroke counts – they count in practice and they count in a race. We've been finding ourselves on the short end of the stick all season long – close but not close enough to medal. The guys know that crews only get faster over the long winter. If we want to win big races come the spring, we need to train hard in the months ahead and remember the sting of losing in October. We had a better race today than in previous races, but we know we have a lot of work ahead of us."
