Scott McVean enters his 20th year in athletic administration at RIT in 2024-25. This will be his tenth year as the senior associate athletic director, after serving the first six years as assistant athletic director and the next four as associate athletic director.
As senior associate athletic director, McVean is responsible for overseeing the budgets for all RIT athletic programs and managing capital projects. He also provides leadership and support to the athletics staff and all 24 athletics teams. McVean has direct supervisory roles for Men's Lacrosse, Women's Soccer, Men's & Women's Rowing, and Men's & Women's Track and Field/Cross Country.
A standout collegiate athlete, McVean played football on the defensive line at Ithaca College, helping lead the Bombers to an NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 2001. McVean previously played both baseball and football at Penfield High School, graduating in 1998.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College in 2002, McVean spent two seasons as a defensive line coach at the University of Rochester, while earning his master’s degree in education with a focus in athletic administration from SUNY Brockport in 2004.
McVean recently completed a four-year term on the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Committee (2020-24), serving as the chair from 2022-24.
McVean is no stranger to RIT, as his father Bob has served as the men’s basketball coach at the institute for 40 years. McVean resides in Penfield with his wife Kristen and three children, Alex, Nina, and Isla.
